Emergent City is Joseph A. Sarafian’s project at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The artist plays with shapes and structures to create an imaginary world that could be born in the future after a huge extinction: after the 22th century and the world already distroyed by earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes, some architects created an organism named the Arachne.
The Arachne swarm utilizes synthetic muscles derived from the high compression/expansion ratio of carbon nanotubes when they are given an electrical current. These species of spiders would collaborated with the human kind to create a new type of livings using Carbon Nanotubes, Porous Alumina, Nanogel, and Micro-Encapsulated Phase Change
Material. The future of the architecture and urbanism and also the meaning of architects imagined by the young architect would be in short like this: architects will be in the future a new species: they will have to be chemists, biologists and programmers in the same time.
Joseph recently graduated and he received the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
