Recycle wood into wall art

January 18th, 2013 -

This year, Valentine’s day comes with a touch of green:) See below a nice project found on Etsy:  Alex, from Pittsburgh, PA, United States makes functional and decorative pieces of art that can decorate your walls. Everything is made from reclaimed wood, hardware and glass. Between his mosaics, picture frames, large variety of crosses, fleur de lis, hearts, shamrocks and churches I found some nice hearts that are so lovely. You will wonder if all these are hand-made. Well, sure, and they are entirely made by Alex. The artist confesses: “I have been working with wood for almost 20 years, although I am a long way from where I started.

I began using salvaged wood around 10 years ago when the farmhouse next to my shop was being torn down, and I was allowed to make use of its pieces. At the time, I was starting to experiment with faux finishing, and distressed effects. It became obvious that no amount of practice or skill could create a better or more natural appearance than time could. I have been scavenging for old wood ever since.” I am very impressed by the result and I think this idea is very interesting when wanting to make a special gift for the loved one. What do you think?

Is this difficult to try at home? Use old wood and paint it over with beige shades and white or pink, if you want. Paint the edges in a different color and voila! A nice gift for Valentine’s day.
